On April 20, 2010, and explosion aboard the offshore drilling rig Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico killed 11 workers and injured 17 more. Four days later, it was discovered that the wellhead was damaged and was leaking oil into the Gulf. The threat of oil has caused alarm along the Gulf Coast, especially as tar balls began washing on shore in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. With natural habitats, countless forms of animal and sea life, and millions of jobs affected, this disaster has created a unique and difficult situation along the entire Gulf region. On Sunday, June 13, two members of the Department of Homeland Security visited CCBSL's worship service to provide an update on the efforts to contain the spill, the process of filing for a claim, and answer any questions. We will endeavor to keep this site up-to-date with the information necessary for those in our community to best address their specific needs.
